Sounds of War Iraq Attack of Thomas Edington (Audible Audio Edition) Thomas Ferreolus F William Baldwin P Rebog Productions Books
As one who has read many books about various wars (especially since Vietnam), I must say Sounds of War is unlike any other with readers taken into the psyche of lead soldier, Thomas Edington. Some info is related via flashbacks, and I'm one who really enjoys and visualizes this method. No one but those who are "in the trenches" can comprehend what happens in war, and how action endured and decisions made, influence the mentality of all involved. Psychological experiences that can never be erased, only shoved deep inside in order to cope with life post war.
Author Ferreolus developed his characters well, and input just enough elements of humor and love to get readers through the trickery, anxiousness and terrors our soldiers went through. Comrades? I believe loyalty was more solid in the older wars, but even as far back as the Civil War, there were those who fought beside you, but did not truly have your back. Snakes will strike whomever to slither into a more favorable position that will keep them alive, and when others perish, said snakes come out as the victor & with "un"earned medals.
It saddens me that we continue to shed blood abroad, treat soldiers like non-citizens when they return from fighting for our country, and leave them to relive and cope with horrific memories.
Sounds of War is not that glorious action, winner takes all kind of novel, but instead tells a side of war experienced by most of our military, instead of glamorizing only specific leaders, or those thought to be "Heros" when they are anything but. If you want a closer look into the lives of some US soldiers whose fear you will absorb alongside other sensations, this is a no nonsense accounting that seems more honest than other novels that enjoy celebrating explosive macho action. An exception accounting that leaves you wanting more.

Sounds of War Iraq Attack of Thomas Edington (Audible Audio Edition) Thomas Ferreolus F William Baldwin P Rebog Productions Books Reviews
This story is too true and honest to be read without feeling the horror of a sensitive man forced into a ghastly situation, The war in Iraq was a nightmare and I do hope that we can sit the next middle east war out. Let them deal with their own problems instead of asking the US to spend blood and treasure to destroy a country that cannot possibly understand full democracy. For anyone who fought in Iraq, this should bring back some gruesome memories. For the family of a soldier who fought there, it is an gripping account of what that war was like.
I was intrigued from the start. Everyone (military and civilian) that hasn't done a tour fighting for our country should read Sounds of War. I think we all need to realize what our soldiers endure for us and this book definitely makes you feel like you're walking right beside Thomas throughout his experience. The way the characters were described, I could easily picture them. The terror, anxiety, uncertainty that Thomas was going through daily, was felt. How a soldier could go through an experience like that without a major depressive episode is beyond me! The fact that there was a little scandal, humor and a love story always adds spice to any story. I wanted to finish the book but then again...I didn't want it to end. I am anxiously awaiting to read about the rest of Thomas's tour.
The Sounds of War is an amazing fictional novel about Thomas Edington during the Iraq War. The author, Thomas Ferrreolus, takes us on a journey with the protagonist, as he maneuvers through the pains of war near death experiences, friendships made and broken, love lost and new ones found.
In this very realistic view of war, Specialist Edington is first confronted by his new Sergeant Major with the words “insignificant bug” and “puny existence.” He is singled out as he is accused of doing something wrong, which he fervently denies. But the concept that he is one of many and his life can be replaced by another soldier is made loud and clear, in the exchange.
This is a sobering account of one man’s fight for survival in a brutal environment. His resolve is stronger than most and makes for an incredible read. A+
The books centers around the life of Thomas Edington, a soldier deployed to Iraq during that war. Thomas soon learns that the child begging on the street might be his enemy and the necessity of his Kevlar vest. Email becomes the main way of communicating with the loved ones back home. Some soldiers have flashbacks of the horrors they experienced during the Vietnam War. He wakes with cold sweats after explosions erupt during the middle of the night. He sees death first-hand among some of his fellow soldiers. Thomas is surrounded with the smells, sites, sounds and mayhem of war and he has to find ways to handle the terror and anxiety running through his mind. He longs to return to his life back in the states as clearly spelled out in the book “Thomas missed the normality of any real existence, and chasing after ghosts in the Al Anbar Province was far from normal.”
This is a well-written story about a soldier’s life with very believable characters. It does a great job of depicting the hardships soldiers are confronted with while living and fighting in war zones.
